Jolly cars were a familiar sight on the sun-drenched beaches of the Mediterranean during the 1960s and 1970s. Featuring open sides, striped canopies, and wicker seats, the Jolly provided its passengers with the perfect way to enjoy the warm, salty air between hotel lobbies and sandy shores. Some even found their way onto the decks of private yachts.
Conceived by the automotive design studio GHIA, this beach car was initially based on the Renault 4CV in 1954. However, in 1957, the Ghia studio was enlisted by FIAT commander Gianni Agnelli to design his own beach car, drawing inspiration from the newly launched FIAT 500.
Despite their simplicity, Jollys captured the hearts of many prominent figures. Owners included Princess Grace of Monaco, Elvis Presley, and Aristotle Onassis. President Lyndon B. Johnson was also among the distinguished owners.
Now, the VW JOLLY FACTORY revives the iconic Jolly bodies, available for the classic VW Bug and VW Kombi models, as well as the contemporary New Beetle Jolly version.
Welcome to this universe we've brought back to life. Choose your model and color, pack your chairs, mats, and cooler, ignite the engine, and embrace the beach breeze awaiting you.
